World MS Day Dinner 2023 – oh what a night!

The MS Society SA & NT hosted its first ever World MS Day Dinner on Saturday 27 May, 2023 at the Adelaide Convention Centre, and what an amazing night it was!

Hosted by iconic Australian comedian, screenwriter, director and disability advocate, Tim Ferguson, 175 guests were treated to a spectacular night of fine dining and world-class entertainment while raising funds and awareness for people living with MS in South Australia and the Northern Territory.

We were honoured to have members of Kuma Kaaru, including the granddaughter of Aboriginal elder Aunty Josie Agius, Patricia, do a Welcome to Country.

Likewise, another proud moment was having the MS Society’s Client Operations Manager, Helen Whitworth, accompanying speakers on stage to provide a live Auslan interpretation.

Tim Ferguson had the crowd in stitches, providing his well-known humour and wit, while also sharing his experience as a person living with MS.

The Billy Joel Tribute Concert, whose lead singer Anthony Mara lives with MS, treated guests to an electrifying musical experience and had them up on the dancefloor.

The MS Society’s CEO, Jannine Jackson thanked supporters for their ongoing generosity, acknowledging it was thanks to them that the work of the MS Society was possible.

“Bringing the community together at a dinner such as this, I feel a great surging sense of hope and optimism,” she said.

“I see the incredible difference your support makes.

“Your generosity, your kindness makes a tangible, life-changing and often life-saving difference.”

Jannine also highlighted the importance of connection, the theme for World MS Day, saying the event was about bringing together the MS and wider community and helping change the lives of people living with MS.

“There’s no denying the importance of connection,” she said.

“Connection to our friends, our families, our colleagues, our community. It’s vital.

“To our MS community here tonight, I hope you feel the love and support that is here for you. This event is for you.”

The night also featured a silent auction, which was run in conjunction with Helping Hand, table raffles and a hugely popular wine wall. Almost $19,000 was raised.

Thanks to everyone for your support!
