A Quiet Commitment to Making a Difference

For more than 25 years, the winner of our L114 Cash for a Cause lottery purchased tickets whenever possible, supporting the work of the MS Society in any way he could.  His commitment came from a deeply personal place – a family member who lived with multiple sclerosis (MS) for nearly three decades.

“I didn’t buy tickets hoping to win,” he reflects. “I bought them because I wanted to help.”

His loved one’s journey with MS was long and challenging, marked by hospital visits, stays in intensive care, and constant adjustments to daily life. Despite these difficulties, they faced MS head-on, and while at times it was tough, they never allowed the condition to define them or their family.

When he finally received the winning call, it was a life-changing moment. Yet he is clear that the win was never his motivation. “Buying tickets isn’t about luck or prizes,” he says. “It’s about making a difference for people living with MS and their families.”

The prize has allowed him to secure his finances, replace his aging car, and plan an overseas trip to visit family, changes that have brought peace of mind. But even now, he continues to buy tickets and make donations.  Knowing that every contribution helps provide vital services such as early intervention programs, physiotherapy, and community activities that keep people living with MS active and connected.

For him, it’s the ongoing impact that matters. A small, consistent action, whether it’s buying a ticket or donating, becomes part of a greater effort to support people affected by MS.

His story is more than just winning a grand prize; it’s a meaningful reminder that change and support can come in a multitude of ways. Sometimes, it comes from years of quiet, steady commitment to a cause.

For this supporter and winner, it has never been about winning; it has always been about making a difference.
