This year marks a monumental milestone in the fight against Multiple Sclerosis (MS) as we celebrated our 20th anniversary of the MS Mighty Swim. Over the course of 24 hours, 13 teams—from seasoned swimmers to first-time participants—came together at the Unley Swimming Centre for a relay-style event like no other.
We were pleased to have the support of key dignitaries, including the Hon Jayne Stinson MP to kick off the event and Mayor of Unley Michael Hewiston Mr Rod Bunten representing her Excellency the Honourable Frances Adamson AC, Governor of South Australia at both the beginning and end of the event.
The day was filled with many key moments, and we witnessed an incredible display of unity and determination from everyone who attended. Among the inspiring participants was 90-year-old Rita Smith, who swum in her 20th MS Mighty Swim, to honour her daughter Helen, who lives with MS.
Thanks to the dedication of all 253 swimmers and the generosity of donors, we collectively raised over $160,000 and swum an astonishing 8,283 laps—making a mighty impact on the lives of those affected by MS in South Australia and the Northern Territory.
We would like to thank everyone who participated, donated and spectated. You all made a mighty difference, and we can’t wait to make more of an impact next year.
